ELLSWORTH & PORTLAND—The Guy P. Gannett Journalism Scholarship Fund of the Maine Community Foundation has awarded just over $308,000 in scholarships to 26 students, all graduates of Maine high schools. They will receive financial support for graduate and undergraduate studies at schools across the U.S. and abroad, including American University in Rome, Northeastern, Skidmore, Columbia, Endicott, Emerson, Fordham, University of Maine, UC Berkeley and Michigan State.

Thomas College welcomes largest class PDF Print E-mail

Overall enrollment up 31 percent 

WATERVILLE — Thomas is welcoming its largest incoming undergraduate class in its 113-year-old history this week—putting the College on track for its goal of doubling its undergraduate enrollment in 10 years.  When classes began Monday, August 27, Thomas saw 255 new full-time undergraduates fill its classrooms. Of those enrolled, 196 are Maine residents and many are first-generation students.

WALDOBORO-John Howland, Commander of the Soule-Shuman Memorial VFW Post 4525, and Barbara Johnson, President of the VFW Post 4525 Ladies Auxiliary, proudly announce their organizations sponsorship of the VFW’s annual student speaking and writing competitions.  The competitions offer area students the opportunity to compete for valuable prizes at both the local and national level.

BATH - Tri-County Literacy has announced a partnership with Verizon for expansion of its Read With Me Family Literacy Project.  Read With Me is one two major programs of Tri-County Literacy, a non-profit organization whose organizational mission is to change lives through improved literacy.  Verizon has awarded Read With Me $5,000 to help the program address issues of early childhood literacy.  Read With Me works with young children enrolled in local Head Starts and in Bath and Wiscasset kindergarten and first grade.
