Lobster boats rally against gasificiation plant |

WISCASSET - On October 11, the lobstermen of the midcoast came together to show a unified front against the proposed gasification plant to be located on the Back River. About 30 boats paraded single-file up the Sheepscot River, heading toward the town landing, where they were met by over 100 protesters who held signs proclaiming, “Say No to Coal”.

WISCASSET - A highly-publicized seminar held Wednesday at The Chewonki Foundation was praised by leaders in Maine’s conservation and legislative community as a critical and much needed opportunity to explain the subject of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), a little-known technology that –very soon -- is sure to become a well-known concept in the U.S. and around the world.

WISCASSET - The Carbon Capture and Storage seminar held on Wednesday, October 24, carried an important message: We need to do everything possible to reduce carbon dioxide if we want the world to survive, and carbon capture and storage may eventually play a big part in that process worldwide. But it also made another important point: Maine’s geology makes carbon storage impossible, and even if CO2 were to be carried by pipeline, many, many kinks need to be worked out of the process before it can be either environmentally or economically viable.

“I don’t care what nobody says/we’re gonna have a baby.” Welcome to the world of Kings of Leon, probably the best newish American rock band that sounds American. If you don’t already know it, their backstory is legendary. The Brothers Followill toured the deep south in a much different fashion when they were kids--their father was a traveling evangelist, taking his boys from sticky-hot backseats of station wagons to sweltering army tents along with him. Logically, they grew long hair, formidable beards, and formed a swinging blues-rock band with their cousin when they became young men; their debut is called Youth and Young Manhood.
