La Scala Opera Series hits “Frontier” big screen

BRUNSWICK- The legendary splendor of the historic Teatro alla Scala (La Scala) can finally be experienced without traveling to Italy through a series of High Definition presentations in theaters across the United States, including Brunswick’s very own Frontier Cafe. Moviegoers can finally experience La Scala’s production of Giuseppi Verdi’s “Aida,” directed and designed by Franco Zeffirelli. Six additional operatic presentations from Milan’s La Scala, Florence’s Maggio Musicale and Venice’s Teatro La Fenice will follow.

NEWCASTLE - On Friday, December 14, the St. Cecilia Chamber Choir gave the first of three performances of a "Ceremony of Lessons and Carols", as it has each Christmas season since 1995.  The first concert was at the Second Congregational Church; the remaining two concerts were at Bowdoin Chapel.

On the whole, Americans want their politicians to hew to the political center and govern with a healthy dose of pragmatism. Yet we live in the most bitterly partisan era in memory, when the dominant voices in both parties are more ideological and less willing to compromise, and the politics they practice too often is a mean-spirited, take-no-prisoners enterprise.
