High antioxidant activity in blueberries PDF Print E-mail
New research published in the current issue of the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (55 (22), 8896-8907, 2007) shows that Maine Wild Blueberries have the highest cellular antioxidant activity of selected fruits tested.  Lead scientist Rui Hai Liu, Ph.D. used the cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) assay--a new assay developed by the Cornell University Department of Food Science to determine antioxidant activity of antioxidants, foods, and dietary supplements.  Wild Blueberries performed better in cells than cranberries, apples, red and green grapes.

BATH--If only all forms of higher education were this painless.  The Solo Bistro Bistro hosted the second class of its Introductory Wine Course with Ned Swain Tuesday of Devenish Wines, Nov. 13.  Mr. Swain discussed the reasons for the differences between Old World wines and New World wines, such as climate, cuisine, and cultural approach, as an introduction to the evening before moving on to the four wines showcased.

It’s that time of year again, when we drag out boxes from the cold, dingy dungeon we call a basement and consider the best place to put a Christmas tree at Turning Tide Cottage.  This involved careful consideration, but after thinking about it for five minutes or so, we realized the only place to put it is in the window of the coffee room, where no one ever goes in the winter on account of the floor being practically frozen.
