Bocce is alive and well and living in Dresden PDF Print E-mail
Bocce is alive and well on Cedar Grove Road and other areas of Dresden! And its not just for the geriatric set! My grandkids ... one fourteen, two nines, a seven, and a five ... played for hours both together and with their parents during their annual trek from Georgia, New Hampshire, and Cape Cod to our family home in July. Our regulation-sized, grass-based bocce court kept them more occupied than text messaging, Internet gaming, and television. As a septuagenarian, ex-pat from Massachusetts who ... as a twenty-something ... played at the Swampscott Italian Club on a regular basis my love for the game has been regenerated. Although the fruits of winning are not the same ... the losers used to have to buy the beers for the winners ... the satisfaction of a well-played game has not changed. I don't know if I want to "beat the pants off the Senior Center players" since pant-less folks from my own generation conjures up less than favorable images, but I would like to "take 'em on" to see if my youthful expertise hasn't atrophied too much.
