DETROIT - Beyond the housing troubles, other issues the new president will have to face is the increasing unemployment rate, health care troubles, and retirement account problems for those who saw their IRAs and 401Ks fall dramatically, or whose employers now find themselves unable to honor their pension plans.

BATH - The November sky was as blue as a summer sky, the temperatures were warm, and that, as well as the historic nature of this year’s election, brought out Maine’s voters. Lines were long but orderly throughout the midcoast and the state. According to Matt Dunlap, Maine’s Secretary of State, over 80% of the electorate came out to cast a ballot. A lot of those voters did so early; early voting was especially heavy this year.

Knitting for a local soldier |
BATH - Last spring, Malta Phelps of Tenant’s Harbor contacted Halcyon Yarn with a special request. Malta’s son, Sgt Michael Wall, is a career soldier stationed in Afghanistan where the winters are very cold. Remembering the warm woolen fisherman mittens his grandmother used to make, Sgt. Wall had asked her to make 16 pairs for his unit. Unfortunately, Mrs. Wall doesn’t knit any more and couldn’t remember the pattern -- so Michael’s family asked Halcyon Yarn for help.
