WASHINGTON D.C. - On Monday, the House refused to pass a bill that would, among other things, grant the Treasury $700 billion to rescue failing financial institutions.  They will reconvene today to try again to pass the measure.

Canadian billionaires interested in Blethen Maine Newspapers PDF Print E-mail

The list of potential buyers for Blethen Maine Newspapers now officially includes Canadian-based Brunswick News, a subsidiary of J.K. Irving, whose family owns the chain of Irving Oil gas stations and retail stores, as well as every English-language newspaper in New Brunswick, most of the province’s French weeklies, and a tall stack of its radio stations.

Funds to aid midcoast businesses secured PDF Print E-mail

BRUNSWICK - The Midcoast Council for Business Development and Planning (MCBDP) learned last week that it will receive $750,000 from the U.S. Office of Rural Development.  This money will be matched by funds raised by local communities, state grants, and a local lender, reaching a total of $1.2 million dollars.
