There are hundreds of homes and buildings all throughout Maine now being powered by the sun. Every year, The Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, a chapter of the American Solar Energy Association, puts on the Green Buildings Open House, an event where hundreds of solar powered buildings open their doors to the public.

A couple of years ago, my brother and I took on the task of cleaning out our parents' house. Our dad had just died; our mother had passed a couple of years earlier. They had lived in their home for over 45 years - and had never thrown away anything.
