Oil production increases, but so does price PDF Print E-mail
Over the weekend, ministers from OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) met in Jeddah, S.A. to discuss increasing output.  Saudi Arabia agreed to produce another 200,000 barrels per day, but on Monday, OPEC chief Minig Chakib Khelil (also the Algerian minister of energy) released a statement saying that there is no need to hike oil output at present, since ‘high oil prices are not rooted in supply-demand factors’.

  People who claim to be in the know say that if we drill and drain the earth of its last drop of oil, at the present rate of consumption we have enough to last forty years. Forty years ago I was in grad school and it wasn’t all that long ago. Can you believe that in that same short amount of time --- the blink of an eye --- every drop of oil on the planet earth will be gone? We’re talking here about draining it all --- off shore, Alaska, Florida, Iraq. All of it. All those wars for nothing.

Our kids are just plain fat PDF Print E-mail

The other night I was happy to hear students singing at our high school auditorium. Their voices weren't perfect but their spirits were great and that's what counts. Then I noticed something else that counts heavily.
Many of these students were obese. Not just a little overweight, but very big. You could tell by the girth of their arms, legs, torso and their handsome faces. These good young people would be more handsome if they weighed less, and their self-image would have to improve, along with their chances of leading a long life.
