BRUNSWICK - The Theater Project’s Board of Directors has appointed Wendy Poole Executive Director. The board created this position in response to the theater’s needs in today’s challenging environment for the arts.
Ms. Poole has worked at The Theater Project for fifteen years. She is one of the professional company’s leading actors, and she has taught and directed young people at both The Theater Project on School Street and at schools throughout the state as a part of the theater’s Outreach Programs. She has also been The Theater Project’s Production Manager for several years. “My first show at The Theater Project was THE HOSTAGE,” Ms. Poole said. “I loved the theater’s atmosphere, so when Al offered me more work, I jumped at the opportunity and I’ve had no regrets.” A native of New York, Ms. Poole has been active in theater since her high school days. She studied in New York and Los Angeles before deciding to settle in Maine. “We’re very glad she chose Maine,” said Board president Sheri Nadell.
As Executive Director, Ms. Poole will direct the day to day affairs at The Theater Project and be involved with the board in long range planning. She will work closely with Theater Manager Joanna Patterson while continuing her work as Production Manager. “I want to do everything I can to enable The Theater Project to continue and prosper for another thirty-five years,” Poole said. “ I love the work we do and I believe in it. To continue, we have to inform the community of our role here and we have to find more sources of support.”
The Theater Project Board now includes new members Craig Ela, Evie Katz, Maria Padian and Heather and Dick Weafer. They join veteran board members Paul Faustine, Sheri Nadell, Eileen Poulan and Rick McGuire, Leanne Robbin, Bette Spettel and Andrea Tracy.
Founder Al Miller, who continues as Artistic Director, was all smiles. “Wendy is committed to The Theater Project and has done great work here. Great and essential. Without her these last few years, there might be vines growing around the windows and Rip Van Winkle dozing inside! She is just what The Theater needs and I am delighted! She and her husband Christopher Price are two dear friends.” Price - who also directs, designs and acts at The Theater Project - and Ms. Poole were married a year ago in The Theater Project. Miller performed the ceremony.
