Resolving to make resolutions PDF Print E-mail
I was reading the Dolce Far Niente column from the December 27th issue of the Coastal Journal and wish to say that part of it resonated with me as true and other parts I found  inspiring and moving.  In my youth, I never made New Year's Resolutions because I found that people never really stick to them; perhaps never is too strong a word-rarely. Moreover, I didn't understand the reason for making a change of importance at that particular time of year. It seemed to me that we make changes when we truly make up our minds to, when we want them badly enough to do whatever it takes to make them a reality.

Admittedly, I still have not made them, however, I am making some this year. I had a small time, locally successful, music career many years ago in another state and I although I have been talking about resurrecting it for several years now, I have decided to actually do something about it in 2008. I work in a career that is not very creatively oriented and although I think I am quite good at it and have enjoyed some measure of success, my creative self seems to be suffering. I am not just one thing: a manager or a husband or a father, son or brother. I can be many things and by being all these things - an artist, a manager, husband, etc.. I am being more of myself and I think I am thus more in touch with myself. I feel more whole, more satisfied.

My other goals for 2008 are spending more time with my daughter and wife(I work too much), being more tolerant, smiling more, and in general trying to make people feel good wherever I go. That's probably sufficient for my first try.
So thank you Gina Hamilton for that inspiring piece. Since I am only starting with this resolution thing I don't know how it will go, but inspiring messages certainly help bring about a positive result.
