BATH - Except for a few handmade flyers posted at the Bath elementary schools, YMCA, and Recreation Department word that Marnee's Cookie Bistro was opening their kitchen on Saturday, January 19 only reached six lucky kids and their moms who got to make their own giant cookies at the Elm Street factory in Bath.
Emily Sample, one of two bakers at the Bistro set up bowls of dried blueberries, cinnamon chips, and toffee bits among other yummy “optionals.” She explained that Marnee's has hosted children's birthday parties in the past, but “we felt like, hey, you don't need to have a party to come make a cookie.” They decided to open their doors to area families on the third Saturday of each month from 1-3 p.m. The $5 fee includes a drink of choice and a giant cookie dotted with any coconut/cranberry//butterscotch/walnut/M&M combination a kid can dream up once their hands are washed and carefully placed in Latex gloves. Adults who bring two or more kids receive a complimentary cookie and beverage as well.
“I started baking back in the Girls Club when I was some of these kids' age,” owner Marnee Robinson reflected as she watched mini-chips and M&Ms disappear into the eager mouths of the participants. “It's just fun to get your hands in the dough.”
