WALDOBORO - The March show at the Tidemark Gallery, 902 Main Street, titled ‘Wilderness and Wood Carvers’ features the work of four talented Maine artists. The exhibit features the paintings of Maine native, Mark Robichaud. Robichaud‘s subjects span his many interests from the rugged beauty of the Maine woods to the sleek and polished reflections of antique motorcycles. He studied at both Montserrat College of Art and the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and his work has been featured at the Owl’s Head Transportation Museum.
Joining Robichaud are three Maine wood carvers with both local and regional roots.
Brian Marks, of Waldoboro, returns to the Tidemark Gallery with his hand-carved duck decoys, as well as his colored pencil renderings. Mark’s decoys are created in both representational and expressionistic styles. The fine lines and skillful painting make these decoys both functional tools and beautiful pieces of art.
Stephen Hensel, Friendship, also returns to the Tidemark Gallery this year. Hensel’s work features dramatic bird carvings. Through his skills in both sculpting and realistic presentation, Hensel’s work is, in a word, breathtaking.
Wayne Robbins, from Bath, and a regular at the Gallery, expands his display with new works dedicated to his passion for the sea and its birds and mammals. Working in a variety of native and exotic woods, Robbins selects species and grains that complement his subject and guides his creative process. The results are carvings that maximize the beauty and grace of both the medium and the subject.
“Wilderness and Wood Carvers,” will be on display through Saturday, April 5. The gallery is hosting an artist’s reception from 5 - 7 pm, on Saturday, March 8. The public is welcome to come and meet the artists, and enjoy a unique display of nature’s beauty captured on canvas and in wood.

Eames, Jr., Ardy Greatorex, Holly-Marie Haining, Gregory Holmes, Sara Hotchkiss, Emy Kanewske, Ann Makuck, Anne Wooster Metcalfe, Lavendier Myers, Louise Price, Kariska Puchalski, Patience Sampson, Dianne Schelble, Joyce Eames Steel, and Carol Wiley.
