New market calling for farmers PDF Print E-mail
BOWDOINHAM- The Bowdoinham Department of Community and Economic Development has announced that the applications for the new market to be located at the Merrymeeting Grange at 27 Main Street are now available.

The first day of the market will be June 20 and it will continue through November 1. The hours of the market will be Fridays 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. and Saturdays 8 a.m. - noon. The market held an organizational meeting on Monday March 31 and the following board of directors were elected: Chas Gill, President, Nate Drummond, Vice President, Gabrielle Gosselin, Secretary and Pete Karonis, Treasurer. The application for the 2008 season is now available on line at www.bowdoinham.com or by contacting Tony Cox at the Town of Bowdoinham.

The market will sell a large range fresh local produce, food and farm products. This project will allow many of the new and existing farmers in the town of Bowdoinham and surrounding areas to have access directly to the local customers. In addition to operating the in the traditional manner of the farmer representing themselves at the grange, the market will allow the farmers to form a cooperative to share an employee to sell for multiple farmers. The cooperative option will allow the farmers to attend larger markets or to spend more time farming rather than having to do retail sales themselves.

“We are looking for 6-10 more farmers and producers to join the market to help round our selection to our customers.” states Tony Cox, director of the Bowdoinham Department of Community and Economic Development, “We have a great space at the grange with both indoor and outdoor spaces available, I look forward to hearing from any area farmer who would like to be a part of this season’s market.”
