Rotary funds 'Lightscaping' PDF Print E-mail
BATH - The Rotary Club of Bath has funded the lighting of two historic church steeples in the City of Bath, Maine. The ‘Nightscaping’ of the Elm Street Baptist Church and the Winter Street Church steeples will be completed in late June.

‘Nightscaping’, an architectural lighting technique, will enhance and feature the subject buildings to boost their nighttime presence on the Bath skyline.  There are more than a dozen historic churches in Bath. This collection of structures, combined with the city’s notable architectural and industrial history, make Bath a unique destination.

The project is being coordinated by Bath City Manager, William Giroux. A member of the Rotary Club of Bath, Giroux said, “We started the project in November 2007 and are excited by its continuation. We’re looking forward to future nightscaping projects that will enhance the night skyline of Bath. The project works alongside the lighting projects at Bath City Hall and the Sagadahoc County Court House. We’re doing more than just lighting these steeples, we’re also working to make this project as energy efficient as possible.”

The working groups include Patty Sample and Chad Frohmiller for the Winter Street Church and Dave Pecci and Guy McDorr for the Elm Street Baptist Church.

The Rotary Club of Bath, organized in 1918, originally met at the King Tavern until its demolition to make way for the Carlton Bridge. For 90 years the club has been providing local, national and international support for people and communities.

Through the Bath Rotary Trust, the club supports the annual construction, placement and sale of a single family home by the Morse High Vocational School.  The club’s support includes the land acquisition, materials and tools for the construction project. Bath Rotary meets weekly at the Bounty Restaurant & Taverne at the Bath Holiday Inn, 139 Richardson Street, Bath.
