BATH - The Coastal Journal, along with the Times-Record, Wiscasset Newspaper, and possibly the Lincoln County News, will moderate a Democratic candidate debate on Sunday, May 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Bath Middle School. All six Democratic candidates - Chellie Pingree, Ethan Strimling, Mark Lawrence, Adam Cote, Michael Brennan, and Steve Meister - have indicated that they will attend.
Gina Hamilton of the Coastal Journal, together with Paula Gibbs of the Wiscasset Newspaper and a reporter from the Times-Record who has yet to be named, will ask questions of the candidates in a round-robin format, based on polling data about Maine voters’ concerns. The Lincoln County News has also been invited to participate, but the Coastal Journal has not received confirmation of their participation by press time.
Issues will be wide ranging, including the state of the economy, the war in Iraq, the health care situation, energy and other costs, climate change, conservation and alternative energies, education, social security, the war on terror, national security, foreign relations, and more.
Candidates will have a chance to field questions from the audience through the moderators.
The debate will be videotaped for later showing on cable access television throughout the area.
