PORTLAND – Thanks to a growing partnership between Planet Dog and Happy Tails Dog Studio, dog lovers throughout the state can now attend seminars by renown animal behavior experts. On the "tails" of the success of a recent Canine Aggression Seminar featuring Dr. Nicholas Dodman, Happy Tails will be hosting seminars by Jean Donaldson, Director of the Academy for Dog Trainers, and Pit Bull Guru Drayton Michaels. Animal behaviorists of this caliber have not been offered before in Maine.
Jean Donaldson, who joined the San Francisco SPCA in 1999, is the Director of the Academy for Dog Trainers.
Donaldson is also an author with over thirty years of experience in dog behavior and training. Prior to working with the SF/SPCA, Ms. Donaldson founded the first positive reinforcement school and counseling service in Montreal, Canada called Renaissance Dog Training. Her seminar, Stop Whispering and Speak Up for Your Dog: Debunking the Dominance Myth, will be held at the Happy Tails Dog Studio on Saturday, July 12th from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Drayton Michaels, a graduate of the Academy for Dog Trainers, will be at Happy Tails' Bishop Street training facility to lead a Pit Bull Awareness Seminar on Saturday, June 14th from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. As a certified professional dog trainer and behavior modification specialist, Drayton's work is focused most specifically on rehabilitating and training Pit Bulls. He has a strong commitment to educating people to be responsible dog owners and provides them with the skills and knowledge to create the safest and strongest bond possible, while effectively training their dogs.
