MUMBAI - Over the American Thanksgiving weekend, a horror show was playing itself out in Mumbai, India. On November 26, an unpatrolled coastal area served as a landing ground for ten gunmen to launch a massive attack on the commercial and cultural center of India. They were looking for foreigners, especially Americans and British visitors, who flocked to the five-star hotels in the heart of the city.

Energy for Maine and beyond

BATH - Even though the price of oil is currently falling, due to adverse market conditions, that situation will not last forever … and probably won't even last the winter.  The world population is rising, and people in developing countries are interested in pursuing a more modern lifestyle.  In China last year, car sales rose by 22%.  In 2006, the number of licensed automobiles in China rose to 22 million, and if trends continue, China will add over 5 million cars to the road next year alone.  In India, which also has a population greater than a billion people, a new automobile, called the Tata, is being marketed next year.  The Tata is small and energy efficient, but at a price tag of only $2500, millions of new cars could be on the road within a few short years.

The Economy: Jobs, health care, retirement

DETROIT - Beyond the housing troubles, other issues the new president will have to face is the increasing unemployment rate, health care troubles, and retirement account problems for those who saw their IRAs and 401Ks fall dramatically, or whose employers now find themselves unable to honor their pension plans.
