If you still haven’t made the move to Energy Star lights and appliances in your home, here are a few good reasons from Home Depot to get with the program:
• Changing up to five lights to Energy Star fixtures or CFLs can save you up to $60 a year. Plus they use up to 75% less energy, generate 75% less heat and last up to 10 times longer.
• An Energy Star qualified ceiling fan can save you up to 50% over a conventional fan — that’s about $15 a year.
• Changing to Energy Star for outdoor lighting can save about $260 a year in energy and bulb replacement costs.
• Switch to an Energy Star programmable thermostat and keep your temps right where you want them while saving about $150 a year.
• Energy Star dishwashers can run with lower water temps (120˚ instead of 140˚) and can reduce your heating bill by 10%.
• With an Energy Star qualified washing machine you’ll save about 7,000 gallons of water a year and use 50% less energy.
Looks like it’s time to make some changes.
