HARPSWELL— The State Fire Marshal's Office has arrested a Harpswell man and charged him in connection with a fire last Friday that destroyed an apartment house he owns with family members.

Morgan Pulsifer, 51, of Cundy's Harbor was arrested Monday afternoon after being interviewed by fire investigators. He is charged with arson and is being held at the Cumberland County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.

The fire, which broke out at midday Friday destroyed the apartment house at 61 Little Ponds Road in Cundy's Harbor, which is a section of Harpswell. Pulsifer recently moved to the building after living in New York.

Earlier this month, representatives from the US Small Business Administration (SBA) discussed some of the complexities of doing business in Maine with managers at Wiscasset's medical foam manufacturer, Rynel.

Dr. Winslow Sargeant, Chief Counsel for the SBA Office of Advocacy, and Assistant Chief Counsel Thaddeus Inge traveled from Washington, D.C. to hear from managers about the state's regulatory environment following a Manufacturer's Association of Maine conference in Owl's Head on May 5. Sargeant and Enge visited three Maine manufacturers during their visit.

The rain held off Saturday morning for Bath's Five Elements School of Martial Arts first annual "Kick-a-thon for Japan Relief" at Waterfront Park. Eleven of the school's students, between the ages of 6 and 12, lined up against the backdrop of the Kennebec River to attempt 1000 kicks. For the last two weeks, these students collected pledges ranging from a penny a kick to flat rates of a $1 to $50 in a fundraising effort that raised $1133 for disaster relief in tsunami-torn Japan.

AUGUSTA — Governor Paul LePage recently announced his nomination of Lt. General Robert J. Winglass (retired) of Bath for appointment as the Commissioner of the Maine Department of Labor.

"Lt. General Winglass has devoted most of his career to public service with the Marine Corps and as a State Representative," said Governor LePage. "I am looking forward to collaborating with him to increase economic stability for both job creators and workers in our State."
