We are fortunate to have Dow PDF Print
February 09, 2012

For a while, it looked as though Dana Dow was through with politics. Thankfully, after two years off Dana successfully ran for his House district and won. Now we have the opportunity to put him back in the Senate 20 seat that he occupied for two terms in the 122nd and 123rd legislatures.

Dana’s experience as a member who has served in both the Senate and the House of Representatives give him a unique perspective on the inner workings of the legislature. During his three terms, he has served on a variety of committees including Marine Resources; Labor; Business, Research and Economic Development; Government Oversight; and currently on the Labor, Commerce and Economic Development committee.

Last year, I had the honor of being the House Chair of the Joint Select Committee on Regulatory Reform. This was a special one-time committee designed to address state government “red tape.” We listened to the public at a series of off-site hearings and formed legislation based on the hundreds of problems and recommendations we heard. Dana was an invaluable member of this committee. His analytical abilities combined with his extensive business and legislative experience were critical in drafting the final version of LD1.

The bill gained unanimous bi-partisan support of the committee, unanimous support of the Senate and was near unanimous in the House. It was legislation that all who worked on can be proud of and Dana played an integral part in its success.

Today, his title is Representative Dow and he sits one seat away from me in the House of Representatives. I’ve been fortunate to have him close by to use as a sounding board on different issues. We make some very difficult decisions in the legislature and I know with confidence that Dana has thought about them, understands them, has good reasons for his positions, and that he always has the best interests of his constituents at heart.

I’ll be sorry to see Dana leave the House but this district needs Dana Dow in the Senate. His teaching background, his business and civics knowledge and experience, and his strong moral compass will make him an ideal Senator once again. Please support Dana Dow in this very important special election on February 14th.

State Rep. Jonathan McKane
District 51
Newcastle
