Bidding for the silent auction takes place in person, at the theater, during each performance of “Sunset Boulevard” and during normal box office hours (Mondays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays 10 a.m. to evening intermission and Sundays noon to intermission). There are additional items up for bid in an online auction, accessible via a link on the MSMT website, www.msmt.org.

Each year many artists, craftsman, retailers and individual supporters of MSMT donate items to the auction that are up for bid as a fundraiser for the theatre. The 12th Annual Silent & Online Auction at MSMT includes over 150 items including works of art from some incredible artists. This year’s event includes Giclee prints by Brunswick artist Alice Treworgy and a sculptural piece called “24 Common Spikes” made of forged steel by John Bisbee. Bisbee is an artist in residence and lecturer at Bowdoin College. Also featured are tickets to popular sporting events, theatre tickets, collectable memorabilia and a trip to Boston.

MSMT’s Annual Silent & Online Auction is the largest fundraiser to support the theatre’s nationally recognized intern and apprentice programs. Each season, these education programs train dozens of future theatre professionals in all aspects of the live performing arts including performance, administration, sound, lighting and costume design. MSMT’s programs provide housing and a weekly stipend, as well as much needed professional experience working alongside some of the best directors, choreographers, designers and technicians with resumes that include Broadway, national tours and regional theatre credits.

Interested parties are encouraged to visit the Pickard Theater lobby as well as connect to the online auction link on the MSMT website posted July 18 through August 4. Items are exclusive to each portion of the auction. Also on the MSMT website under the heading “Support MSMT,” there is a photographic preview of much of the artwork being featured in the silent auction.

Maine State Music Theatre is a professional nonprofit arts organization which has operated in Brunswick for 53 years. The theater, contracted with the Actors’ Equity Association’s Council of Resident Stock Theatres, produces four mainstage musicals; produces two children’s musicals; and presents three special concert events each summer at the Pickard Theater on the campus of Bowdoin College.
