Streetscape work resumes in Rockland PDF Print
September 13, 2012

ROCKLAND — Work has resumed on the City of Rockland’s Downtown Streetscapes Project. This is sooner than had been anticipated due to the requirement by the Maine Department of Transportation that the City close out work on Maine DOT-funded projects by October 15, 2012.

In order to ensure work is completed by this deadline, and to avoid disrupting the Columbus Day Holiday as well as the cruise ship visits to Rockland scheduled for late September and early October, the City has determined that resuming work on September 10 would be the most advantageous time to complete the work and then move off Main Street with as little disruption as possible.

The work is expected to be completed by September 27.

Work will include:

• Installing a new crosswalk at the east end of Lindsey Street;

• Installing a new crosswalk across Main Street at Lindsey Street;

• Repair work to the sidewalk in front of Rockland Café;

• Relocating two street lights and a fire hydrant on the east side of Main Street in the bump out (between Lindsey & Summer streets); and

• Fixing and/or repairing any work that was not satisfactorily done earlier this year.

 The City would like the public to know that they are taking every precaution to minimize disruptions to businesses in the Downtown area by enabling vehicles and pedestrians to move freely, have plenty of parking, and provide good signage. Only one lane at a time will be closed so that traffic will continue to flow on Main Street.
