ROCKPORT — Are you interested in obtaining a Captain’s License? Do you know the difference between OUPV Captain and Masters 100GT licenses? Have you had at least 360 days at sea? Five Town CSD Adult Education in Rockport is offering just the class for you, no matter what you may be interested in.
Taught by U.S. Coast Guard certified instructors from the American Boat School LLC of Marlborough, Conn., there will be three classes offered this fall. Captain’s License Info Night, being held on Thursday, October 4, from 6 to 7 p.m., is a one hour informational session for anyone interested in the full Captain’s Course, but who needs more information. This class is free, but reservations are required; call 236-7800, ext. 274, to reserve a space.
Those who miss the informational sessions may still come and get information the following week when the actual classes begin, but are asked to call ahead to inform the adult ed office they’ll be coming.
On Thursday, October 11, the two levels of Captain’s License Courses will begin: the OUPV/Six-Pack Level and the Master’s Level. OUPV/Six Pack runs 14 weeks, and will qualify graduating students to operate vessels carrying up to six passengers. Master’s Level students continue on for the six weeks following the end of the OUPV class. After graduating from the Master’s Class, students are qualified to operate vessels carrying seven or more passengers.
Fees for the classes include all texts, charts, plotters, and the USCG test. Successful completion of this class earns the license, with no need to take any tests in Boston.
Payment arrangements, including weekly payments, can be made with the American Boat School instructor. Both OUPV and Master’s classes meet Thursday evenings starting at 6 p.m. at Camden Hills Regional High School in Rockport. There are no classes during Thanksgiving or Christmas weeks.
