BATH — The Coastal Journal will host a Candidates Night for the open seats on the Bath City Council, on the third floor of Bath City Hall, in Council Chambers, on Thursday, November 1, at 6 p.m. There are a total of eight candidates for four positions on the council:

• Ward Two (near Pine Street to near Leeman Highway), the lone candidate will be Sean C. Paulhus, incumbent and unopposed;

• Ward Three (near Leeman Highway to near Center and Winter Streets), the candidates are Kyle C. Rogers (incumbent), and Carolyn R. Lockwood;

• Ward Four (near Center and Winter Street to near Bedford and North Streets), the candidates are Bernard A. Wyman (incumbent) and Fran Simmler;

• Ward Seven (near Oliver Street to North End and North Bath), the candidates are Larry Scott, Leverett “Tink” Mitchell, and Cal Stilphen.

I will moderate the event. The format will be as follows: Each candidate will have up to five minutes to speak to the issues that he or she thinks are most important for the city. This will allow the candidates to show what they know about the city, as well as about the concerns of residents. The live audience will be given question forms to fill out should they choose to ask a question of a particular candidate or of the candidates in general. Pencils will be provided. We suggest members of the audience bring a book or other flat surface to lean on while writing questions. The forms will be handed in, and I will then read the questions to the candidates. I may also ask some questions based on previous interviews done with Bath residents.

There will be seating for about 45 residents. The doors will open at 5:50 p.m., and the seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The event will be televised on local station BCTV (Bath City Television). The City of Bath and The Coastal Journal invites you to attend, view on TV, or via a link on our website, www.coastaljournal.com. We hope this event helps you to make a more informed choice for your representative on the Bath City Council.
