WASHINGTON D.C. -- In his State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called on Congress to pass a program of incentives for homeowners who make energy efficiency investments in their homes.  Obama recently outlined more details of a new “HOMESTAR” program that would help create jobs by encouraging American families to invest in energy saving home improvements.

BATH  — The American Planning Association (APA) has announced that Front Street has been designated one of 10 Great Streets for 2009 by APA's Great Places in America program. APA Great Places exemplify exceptional character and highlight the role planners and planning play in creating communities of lasting value.

APA singled out Front Street because of long-standing commitment of city leaders, merchants and residents to protect the street’s historic and maritime character as well as its economic vitality. In addition, the street stands out for its unique sense of place, framing views of the Kennebec River and the town’s place-defining trademark, the giant red-and-white Bath Iron Works crane.

NEW YORK -- Monday was the first anniversary of the fall of Lehman Brothers, the meteor that heralded the worst fiscal crisis in the U.S. since the Great Depression. Yet despite the Obama administration’s development of a re-regulation package in the spring, nothing at all has moved through Congress, which is still convulsed with the battle over health care, and still in recovery from the need to expend over $700 billion to bail out the financial industry over the past year.
