The Coastal Journal is a free weekly publication serving towns from
Freeport to Waldoboro. The Coastal Journal has been part of Midcoast
Maine's social and cultural scene for more than 40 years. The paper
offers an eclectic mix of feature stories, local news briefs, recipes,
health tips, guest columns and an extensive arts & enrichment
section. Our Coastal Calendar, that appears in every issue, covers a
variety of local events and happenings, ranging from music, theater,
exhibits, club meetings and fairs.
The paper is published on Thursdays and is available at retailers and
in news boxes throughout the region. It is also inserted in the
Portland Press Herald for the Midcoast region.
Internship Opportunity at the Coastal Journal:
The Coastal Journal is seeking one or two unpaid interns interested in
journalism and web management for the spring semester. The positions
involve newsgathering, writing, and editing, including the opportunity
for bylines in the paper to build a portfolio. In addition, the intern
will assist in the management of our website, www.coastaljournal.com.
He or she may also take part in other areas of the newspaper business,
such as design, production and distribution, receiving a well-rounded
education in the operations of a small newspaper.
The successful candidates will have 10 hours per week to
dedicate to the internship, and may have the opportunity to acquire
college credit.
Required are excellent writing skills, reliability, a willingness to
pitch in and learn new skills, and a good sense of humor. A driving
license and transportation during the workday helpful but not required.
