BRUNSWICK — The Metro BREEZ bus service, offering express bus service between Portland, Yarmouth, Freeport, and Brunswick, is launching on Aug. 24 at Maine Street Station.

Comprised of three stops – train station, Bowdoin College, and Maine Street – the service will be traveling to and from Portland on a limited-stop express basis 14 times between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. weekdays and six trips between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday. Each trip will cost $3, and serves as an extension of the pilot program already running in Freeport.

Bus service to Freeport started in June 2016, and was extended to Brunswick thanks to additional grant funding and an agreement between Brunswick Town Council and Metro. The town is projected to pay roughly $76,000 over the next two years for the service. Bowdoin College also contributed an annual $10,000 for the service.

In addition to the inaugural run on Aug. 24, the bus will be previewed at the Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival on Saturday.
