BRUNSWICK — Tours at the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum, owned and operated by Pejepscot Historical Society, end for the season on Veterans Day weekend with free admission for all veterans, active military, and their families.

Operating on a reduced schedule since Columbus Day, the museum offers guided tours on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. The last tour leaves at 3 p.m.

Several recently acquired newspapers owned by Chamberlain will be on display, and everything in the museum shop will be on sale for at least 25 percent off. Light refreshments will be offered throughout the day.

While Chamberlain is best known for his leadership of the 20th Maine Regiment at Gettysburg during the Civil War, he was also president of Bowdoin College in his later years and Governor of Maine for four one-year terms.

The house contains his Gettysburg boots, horse’s saddle, original Medal of Honor, Governor’s chair, family furniture, and many other items.

The museum will also be open for a special holiday program and tea at 2 p.m. Dec. 2. A talk in the parlor about Brunswick and Chamberlain family Christmas celebrations will be followed by a short tour of the house. Rooms will be decorated according to different time periods and refreshments will be served.
