BATH — “Scrooge! The Musical” will run this weekend at the Chocolate Church Arts Center, 804 Washington St.

As a classic work, Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” has been dramatized and adapted countless times for virtually every medium and performance genre, and new versions appear regularly. This year, the Chocolate Church highlights the version by renowned writer-composer-lyricist Leslie Bricusse, who adapted the 1970 hit screen musical, “Scrooge!”

Like the film, the musical closely follows Ebenezer Scrooge (Iver McLeod) as he undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of Christmas Eve, after being visited by the ghost of his former partner Jacob Marley (Reese Madarasz) and the ghosts of Christmas Past (Sarah Hanson), Christmas Present (Mary Melquist) and Christmas Future (Phoebe Hanson).

Each year the Chocolate Church presents a Christmas-themed production as family entertainment and as a gift to the community. The production team of Wayne Otto as director; Ashley Steeves as choreographer, and Kyle Aaron as music director has prepared this year’s production with an extra dose of Christmas spirit.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door for 7:30 p.m. shows on Friday and Saturday, and 2 p.m. shows on Saturday and Sunday. There is an opening night reception with light refreshments and the opportunity to meet and greet cast members on Friday, immediately following the show for an additional $6.

Tickets can be purchased by calling the CCAC box office at 442-8455 or visit www.chocolatechurcharts.org.
