BATH — Chocolate Church Arts Center announces the New Year’s Eve party featuring Pat Colwell and The Soul Sensations at 8 p.m. Dec. 31.

“We chose to look to our friends in the Newfoundland timezone for a unique twist to New Year’s Eve,” said Jennifer DeChant, executive director of the Chocolate Church. “We will ring in midnight according to that time zone so it leaves plenty of time for revelers to be home in time for resolutions when the clock strikes midnight Eastern Standard Time.”

According to DeChant, in Newfoundland during the Christmas season, there is a long and varied history of home-visiting by mummering, mumming, or janneying, as it is commonly known today, typically involving a group of friends or family.

“It will be a fun evening because our ‘mummers’ are a part of this high-energy, 100 percent old school R&B revue complete with female backup singers, a full horn section, and a show that will knock your socks off,” DeChant said.

Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations cover soul classics from Sam and Dave, The Supremes, Wilson Pickett, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, Prince, and Bruno Mars. When Pat Colwell and the Soul Sensations hit the stage, it’s an instant Soul Train dance party and a history of soul music all wrapped up in a single package of fun.

Tickets are $50 each in advance and $60 at the door, and include catered refreshments, choice of party favors/noise makers and a beverage to ring in the New Year (Newfoundland time at 10:30 p.m.).

There will be a designated dance floor and cash bar. Snappy casual, Newfie-style attire is encouraged.

Tickets are available by calling the CCAC box office at 442-8455 or at
