BATH — Bath Middle School Science Teacher Monica Wright has been notified by the Maine Environmental Education Association that she has been named as a recipient of their 2017 Eberhard Thiele Environmental Educator Award.

The Eberhard Thiele Environmental Educator Award is designed to recognize either an environmental education professional who works outside the formal classroom setting or a classroom teacher who incorporates environmental education into their pedagogical philosophy and practice. Eberhard Thiele was the first President of MEEA (1981), served many years on the board, and inspired many students as the Director of Environmental Studies at the University of Maine, Fort Kent.

“Your demonstrated commitment to creating authentic learning opportunities for your students and engaging them in their environment as well as your clear dedication to reaching into the community to create real world learning opportunities made you a clear choice for this award,” wrote the MEEA Mrs. Wright about the award.

Mrs. Wright will receive her award at MEEA’s Award night on Jan. 24 at Gilsland Farm Audubon Center in Falmouth.
