It’s only been a few weeks since Dan Broadwater and Jeff Marston of Ship City Taxi contemplated getting another car as business picked up.

Now, that car has been purchased and prepared, and the company is still fielding as many rides as it can handle. Started just a few months ago, the local taxi service has seen almost explosive growth as the niche of clean, friendly, professional taxi service is filled in and around Bath.

“We’re doing very well, we’ve accomplished getting a few more drivers on board, so we’ve almost met our goal of the amount of drivers we need during the day and night,” said Broadwater.

The company has doubled in just a few months, something that he said is entirely due to the expertise of Marston, who manages the service.

“He’s certainly the backbone of the company,” said Broadwater.

He started Ship City Taxi after experiencing a ride in another cab that didn’t measure up to his standards. During a different cab ride with Marston, who at the time drove for another company, the idea of a new company was floated.

“When we started, I told Jeff, ‘if we pay our bills for the first six to seven months, we will be doing good,’” Broadwater said. “I thought that would be a good start. We showed a profit after the first 30 days.”

Marston attributes the success to securing loyal clientele with a simple formula: Have clean, professional drivers in clean, well-maintained vehicles. “It isn’t a stretch, it’s just responsible.”

The only thing holding them back from doing more business was a lack of cars and drivers. The fourth car is almost ready for the road, and drivers are being hired soon.

With such immediate demand, the pair believe they’ll continue to see additional success by sticking to their initial goal of providing a solid taxi service that’s punctual and professional.
“Our regular customers are the ones that are really doing it for us,” said Broadwater. “The business is there.”
