For over a century, Wilson’s Drug Store has been providing prompt, friendly service in downtown Bath.

The old-school model of a small, independently-owned and operated pharmacy is something that the business takes pride in. Jonathan Rice, who manages Wilson’s, said he strives to ensure the business keeps that atmosphere without compromising its service.

“As a business that has been ingrained in the community for 102 years, almost 103, the mission is to continue providing a high level of service for our community’s health needs,” he said.

The health-care industry, as almost everyone knows, is a difficult to navigate field that can be expensive to deal with. Wilson’s strives to help customers understand the care they are receiving, and assist in ways to make their lives easier.

That’s easier, in many ways, for Wilson’s than a larger corporate pharmacy because there are no higher-ups and no general managers to confirm things with.

“Because we’re independent, we ARE the corporate back office. We can make decisions here about those things,” said Rice. “We don’t want to ever be like that; we answer our own telephones here.”

Cost savings is often the number-one topic on people’s minds. Wilson’s always strives to assist customers with questions they may have about saving money.

“One of the strongest things we do is to try and adapt and find ways to save people money through innovative cost saving ideas,” said Rice. “When you have to stand there when someone has their pocketbook on the counter, it becomes as real as it gets to that customer.”

Being a small business doesn’t mean that Wilson’s isn’t competitive. The business strives to match or beat any pharmacy in the area, and uses the latest technology when filling prescriptions.

Among the services offered are home delivery and a program called Health-minder, which allows Wilson’s to automatically refill prescriptions, and updates customers with regular medications when they should think about getting more.

A growing part of the business is also medical supplies. Wilson’s is one of few pharmacies in the area that still offers medical devices, and the information needed to use them.
