Police locked down a Bath bank and surrounded a home in the 800 block on Middle Street Wednesday afternoon because of a domestic disturbance, according to Bath Chief of Police Mike Field.

Field said officers responded to a reported domestic incident at 1:14 p.m. and were advised that Jennifer Becze, 36, was in a house and may be armed.

Upon arrival, officers located a male subject and gathered more information, which led police to set up a perimeter and surround the home. MidCoast Federal Credit Union, at 831 Middle Street, went into a lockdown as a result of the police activity.

An officer negotiated with Becze via a phone, and Becze agreed to surrender at around 3:50 p.m. She was transported to MidCoast Hospital in Brunswick for an evaluation.

Becze was charged with creating a police standoff, a misdemeanor, and is due in court on June 19.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Bath Police Department.
