DAMARISCOTTA — The Central Lincoln County YMCA has announced the launch of its 2018 Annual Fund drive with the theme “You Are Y.”

The Y is a not-for-profit organization that provides financial assistance to ensure that no one is turned away because of inability to pay.

The Y relies on charitable donations to sustain and enhance programming, serve members and reach out to individual communities. Community support helps the Y make a meaningful and long-lasting impact in local neighborhoods. Meagan Hamblett, the CLC YMCA Executive Director said Whelan’s commitment to the community is “remarkable.” Whelan is involved with the Ecumenical Committee on Homeless Prevention, Ecumenical Food Pantry, Ecumenical Diaper Bank, C.H.I.P.’s Community Cares Day and Habitat for Humanity. She is also a Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens docent and Herbarium volunteer.

“It is at the Y that I feel a sense of community with men and women who are serious about good health and actively engaged in keeping their minds and bodies working and strong.” Whelan said. “The Y is a cosmos of our community in age, background, experience and life. By being there, I feel enriched in that diversity.”

The CLC YMCA 2018 Annual Fund drive began this week when letters were mailed to residences throughout the Y’s 10-town service area.

All of the CLC YMCA’s Board of Directors and leadership-level staff have already pledged to contribute toward this year’s goal of $120,000.

The Y is also hosting the 2nd annual “Tee Up for Kids” Golf Tournament, which will be held Friday, Aug. 17, at the Wawenock Golf Club in Walpole.

Participants will be contributing to the CLC YMCA’s 2018 Annual Fund, enabling the Y to continue its mission as a key collaborative leader improving the quality of life for all by being the champion of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.

In 2017, the Y provided scholarship aid in excess of $204,000 to children who couldn’t otherwise afford to participate in Y programs and development opportunities to over 3,500 youth as members, campers, athletes and students at the Y.

Advance registration by Aug.10 is $75 per player or $300 per foursome, and it includes a 9-hole round of golf and cart. Registering the day of the event costs $85 per player or $340 per foursome.
