BRUNSWICK — Lisa Lieberman, author of the Cara Walden series of historical mysteries, is the first guest for the upcoming Mystery Author Series at the Curtis Memorial Library.

The Walden series is based on old movies and features blacklisted Hollywood people in international locales. The author talk begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4.

The Sept. 11 event features a police officer and civilian — Bruce Griffin and Kate Flora — who write Portland-based police procedurals.

Coffin is the bestselling author of the Detective Byron mystery series and former detective sergeant with more than 27 years in law enforcement. “Among the Shadows” and “Beneath the Depths” are the first two novels in the series, and the third novel, “Beyond the Truth,” will be released on Oct. 30.

Flora’s fascination with people’s criminal tendencies began in the Maine attorney general’s office. She said deadbeat dads, people who hurt their kids and employer discrimination aroused her curiosity about human behavior. The author of 19 books and more than 20 short stories, Flora’s been a finalist for numerous awards. Her latest fiction, “Death Warmed Over,” her eighth Thea Kozak mystery, was a finalist for the Maine Literary Award.

Leslie Wheeler will speak Oct. 2. She said she write books about ordinary modern women who are thrust into extraordinarily dangerous situations.

On Oct. 16, Sandra Neily will discuss her novel, “Deadly Trespass,” which she said was inspired by being chased by moose and river otters during her unsupervised childhood exploring Maine’s forests and streams.
